The owners of this older Portland home had been wanting to replace their worn-out front door for a while, but the door was not a standard size, so they couldn’t just go out and buy a new door. I worked with them to design and build a custom door to fit the existing doorway, and the updated entry is much more inviting.
The new door is made of quarter-sawn Sapele for the stiles with flat-sawn Sapele Pomele panels. We chose Sapele Pomele for the panels because we were lucky enough to find book-matched pieces at the lumberyard, a real rarity. All of the joints use mortise and tenon and the home owners selected the simple but elegant hardware from Rejuvenation Hardware.
If your house could use a face-lift, let’s design a new front door!
